PANAJI: Chief minister Pramod Sawant said the construction of the Rs 100-crore new high court complex at Porvorim will be completed by March 31, 2020, and its inauguration would be held in April so that shifting to the new premises can be undertaken during the summer vacation for the courts.
On Thursday, Sawant conducted an inspection of the under-construction court building along with Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) officials, the contractor and consultant.
Sawant said the construction work is being monitored by the high court. He said the total cost of the project when it was initially tendered was Rs 72 crore, and it has subsequently increased to Rs 90 crore. The new building will have seven court rooms.
The chief minister said 88% of the building’s civil works are completed, while the interior works has been tendered and 22% of it stands completed. The government is awaiting the estimates of the landscaping works, he said.
“We intend that from next year in June, the high court should start functioning from the new building,” he said, adding that the chief justice of the Bombay high court had recently inspected the ongoing works at the site.
On the landscaping and new access route to the high court, Sawant said an adjacent six-metre wide road connecting the national highway to the new high court will be constructed. “We will issue a tender within 15 days, and then the work order will be awarded to complete the landscaping and road works,” Sawant said.
The entire project, including landscaping and construction of the new adjacent road, will be completed by June 2020, he said. Sawant also said the government has not yet decided on the existing high court premises at Altinho once it is vacated.
