Mapusa : The Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) has sought day-to-day collection of garbage from the Mapusa municipal market on a priority basis and warned of an agitation if the issue is not resolved.

A GSM delegation led by its Mapusa president Kishor Raut along with Abhay Samant, advocate Roshan Samant and Shekhar Parab called upon MMC chairperson Ryan Braganza and handed over a memorandum requesting him to look into the garbage management at the municipal market.

Copies of the memorandum were also given to the Chief Minister, Minster for Garbage, local MLA, health centre and Food and Drugs department.

The delegation said that despite collecting garbage tax from vendors, timely collection of garbage is not done from the market and as a result waste gets rotten which may lead to a health hazard.

Assuring the delegation, MMC chairperson Ryan Braganza said, “We have floated a tender to outsource garbage collection of the market area and once the work is awarded, the problem will be tackled.”
