PANAJI: After a delay of several months, Economic Development Corporation (EDC) Ltd has got around to constituting its task force committee (TFC) and has cleared pending Chief Minister's Rojgar Yojana (CMRY) applications to the tune of Rs 8.9 crore, said EDC chairman Sadanand Tanawade on Wednesday.
Tanawade said that formation of the TFC had been delayed since the posts of the chairman and vice-chairman of EDC were vacant.
“After the TFC was constituted, we met on October 31 and processed the 140 applications. There are 138 beneficiaries who have got loans under CMRY. We have disbursed Rs 8.9 crore,” said Tanawade while addressing the media at EDC office.
He said that the funds would lead to the creation of around 200 jobs in Goa.
EDC has disbursed Rs 174.2 crore to CMRY applicants as on October 31, of which Rs 108 crore has been repaid, a recovery rate of 93.9%, Tanawade, who is BJP general secretary, further said.
He said that despite the benefits of the scheme, many unemployed youngsters were reluctant about or unaware of the CMRY scheme.
EDC has decided to hold an awareness camp at Sanquelim on November 18, and at Curchorem on December 5. Both the camps will be held at the Ravindra Bhavan in the respective constituencies.
More meetings will be held at other talukas, the chairman said. Tanawade also announced that EDC’s incubation and co-working centre had attained 100% occupancy.
