Panaji: The Election Commission of India (EC) has rejected the plea of the state government seeking approval to undertake the work on the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) park at Tuem even as the model code of conduct is in force.

The poll panel has asked the state to carry out the said work only after the conclusion of counting, which will take place on May 23.

The screening committee headed by the Chief Secretary had passed a resolution and the same was attached to the plea sent to EC on April 3, 2019.

In the note sent to the poll panel, the state government appraised that the EMC park project is a time-bound project being developed under the EMC scheme of MeitY, and is envisaged to be completed by March 2020, including the land allotment and setting up of at least the anchor units.

“The present work of the engineering design of road work and allied utilities at the said site is the primary requirement of the project without which no other work can be executed. To complete the infrastructure work in time, it is necessary to start works before the onset of the monsoon,” states the resolution passed by the screening committee.

The committee had stated that the delay in completion of the EMC park project would reflect badly on the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and would thus put the state government in poor light.
