Vasco: Nine crew members’ onboard three fishing trawlers were rescued by Drishti Marine personnel who were found in distress in three different incidents that were reported in the Arabian Sea off Baina and Betul coasts respectively on Sunday and Monday.

As per available information, the first incident was reported off Baina coast during the late evening on Sunday. A fishing boat which ventured into the Arabian sea overturned due to the heavy swell. The rescue operations were conducted jointly by Drishti Beach Safety Patrol and Night Tower Security (NTS) ended in the wee hours on Monday wherein 6 crew members onboard the ill-fated fishing trawler were rescued. There were no reports of any casualties and all the crew were reported to be safe, said Drishti Marine.

The second and third incidents were reported at Betul on Tuesday morning and later in the afternoon wherein two fishing trawlers ran aground.

“One fishing trawler ran aground in the morning, while the second fishing trawler ran aground in the afternoon about 200 meters from the shore. Three fishermen who were onboard were rescued and brought safely to the Mobor beach on jet skis by Drishti Marine personnel. All the survivors were between 22 to 28 years of age and are natives of Jharkhand”, informed the press statement issued by Drishti Marine.

The incidents happened due to the rough weather conditions that have changed rapidly over the last five days in the Arabian Sea. “Thumping waves and strong currents have been witnessed which possibly led to the situation”, added Drishti Marine.

Meanwhile, due to the rough weather conditions at sea, several fishing trawlers from Vasco did not venture into sea. This led to a shortage of fish in the market. The prices of fish in the local markets have sky rocketed since the last couple of days.
