A selfie craze ended with tragedy for a 25-year-old Rakesh Rajput from Mangor Hill Vasco after he was hit by a speeding train on the Konkan Railway bridge over the river Zuari on Wednesday evening.

As per available information from sources, Rakesh along with two of his friends including a girl from Vasco and a boy from Margao went to the Konkan Railway bridge over the river Zuari on Wednesday evening at around 6.30 pm for a photo shoot and also to capture some selfies on their cell phones.

It is learnt that Rakesh accepted a challenge to take selfies at close range when a train passes by over the Konkan Railway bridge.

Konkan railway PI Ram Asare said, “The youth was taking a selfie when he was knocked down by a running train”. He further said that as the train approached his friends moved to safety but he was hit by the train.

The Konkan railway police who are investigating the case revealed that the deceased sustained injuries to his head.

“The inquest-cum-panchanama was held at the GMC morgue on Thursday and the body was handed over to relatives of the deceased”, said the investigating police officer Asare. He ruled out any foul play in the death of the deceased. The Konkan Railway police have registered a case of unnatural death.
