Ponda civic body to take up 40 developmental works

PONDA: The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has resolved to take up over 40 developmental works in the town during its meeting held on Monday.

The developmental works include renovation of Municipal garden by spending around Rs 3.50 cr. The PMC has also decided to extend the renewal period of construction licenses, declaration of six wards as open defecation free and dedicating space for a burial ground for unidentified bodies.

PMC chairperson Radhika Nayak said that the civic body has resolved to renovate the Municipal garden by spending Rs 3.50 cr and the foundation stone of the renovation work will be laid soon. The chairperson said that the renovation work will be done by GSIDC and presently the civic body is waiting for technical clearance to start the project.

Ponda Municipality has decided to declare six wards out of fourteen as open defecation free and a resolution has been taken informed the chairperson.

Radhika Naik said that the Builders Association of India had written to the PMC requesting extension period of construction renewal licenses from 1 year to 3 years, and based on the request PMC has resolved to extend the period to three years.

Considering the need to provide space for burial of unidentified bodies in the town, PMC has resolved to dedicate a space from its crematorium.

PMC has also resolved to purchase cotton bags from the NSS department of GVMs College and distribute it amongst the locals free of cost. PMC has taken the decision to encourage people to use cotton bags rather than plastic, said chairperson Naik.

The meeting was presided by chairperson Radhika Nayak along with chief officer Navanath Naik and other councillors.
