PANAJI

To ensure free and fair elections to both the Lok Sabha seats and three assembly segments in the state, the police have formed special police action teams to crack down on the use of unlicensed fire arms and ammunition, and the illegal use of liquor, money as well as drugs.

Deputy inspector-general of police Parmaditya said, “The police are keeping a strict watch at border check-posts…. various measures are being taken to ensure a free and fair election.”

He said that special action teams have been formed to find out, and act against, if anyone is in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, and to stop the illegal use of money, liquor and also narcotics.

Police personnel have been directed to ensure maximum action under the Defacement of Public Property Act, he said.

The police have been asked to take immediate action against illegal hoardings pertaining to political parties and politicians.

Besides, the Goa police in coordination with the excise department are keeping a watch on liquor transportation.

Static surveillance teams and flying squads are also on their toes.

As part of the crackdown on illegal activities, especially gambling, the police have booked over 100 cases in the last couple of days.
