Panaji: Demanding that the government take the people's sentiments into consideration, the Congress Legislature Party on Monday adopted a resolution to oppose river nationalisation. It is expected to write to Union shipping minister Nitin Gadkari, and to the Centre, asking that the names of Goa's rivers be removed from the National Waterways Act through an amendment.

"If wrong decisions were taken, they should be revoked," opposition leader Chandrakant Kavlekar said. "All the MLAs have opposed river nationalisation. People are already suffering because of CRZ norms. Once this comes, will the common man have to keep running to the Centre for permissions and NOCs to use their land?"

The MLAs also discussed the long pending issue of installation of digital meters on tourist taxis. "If the taxi owners have some concerns, they must be considered," Kavlekar said.
