Panaji: Health minister Vishwajit Rane said he had asked for a reshuffle of the management of 108 ambulance services in Goa. He said that he could not work with people who allowed the degradation of 108 services.
The 108 ambulance services in Goa are operated by GVK EMRI. Rane said any staff member who takes his duty casually will be taken to task. "I have started cracking the whip in order to put ambulance services in place," said Rane.
Rane said that he had had three rounds of meeting with the director of directorate of health services (DHS). He has been directed to submit the number of calls received every day, calls attended, and time taken by ambulences, to his (Rane's) office.
"If any ambulance took more than 15 minutes to reach the spot, an explanation will be demanded," Rane said. Medical audit will also be conducted every 15 days.
Ten advanced emergency ambulances will be procured, said Rane, further adding that he has demanded that ambulances be checked by the headquarters. Neonatal ambulances have already been checked. "Ambulances are not even clean," said Rane, besides adding that he will neither tolerate indiscipline from the staff nor will he give in to the demands of the union .
"The boy who heads the union is from my constituency. I will not entertain him," said Rane.
Emphasizing on the need for trained paramedics on ambulances, Rane said he would take up the issue with chief minister Manohar Parrikar.
