The Vasco police have requested the deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate Mormugao to appoint an administrator to look after the functioning of the temple, following a tussle between the two groups on Tuesday.

The police have raised possibilities of the dispute being repeated again between the two groups of the temple committee and therefore requested the deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate Mormugao Araundekar to appoint the mamlatdar as an administrator to look after the functioning of the temple. The Vasco police also have sent a letter to the Mormugao mamlatdar Satish Prabhu requesting to resolve the claims made by the two groups over the functioning of the temple.

Speaking to media, the deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate Mormugao Araundekar said that he had received the complaint that some new committee members have taken charge of the temple illegally, without following any proper procedures.

“I could not directly interfere into the temple committee disputes. The issues cropped up between the temple committee members could be looked into only by the mamlatdar, since he is an administrator as per the Devasthan Regulation Act”, informed Araundekar.

Meanwhile, the Mormugao Mamlatdar Prabhu had convened a meeting of the temple committee members in his chamber on Thursday, wherein he listened to the complaints of the members in the presence of Vasco PI Nolasco Raposo. The Mormugao mamlatdar has asked the rival groups of the temple committees to produce the statement of accounts by November 10, 2017. He also directed the two groups to unite and elect the president among themselves on temporary basis till March 2018.
