Three held for robbing tourists on promise of accommodation

Calangute: The Calangute police have busted a racket of looting and robbing tourists of their valuables. The modus operandi was going on at a Wellness Spa in Porvorim by trapping tourists from Calangute and robbing them of their valuables. In this connection the Calangute police have arrested three accused while two are on the run.

According to information provided by Calangute police sources an offence of robbery was registered at the Calangute police station on a written complaint filed by a tourist Girish Shetty a resident of Bengaluru. In his complaint he said that Lalsab Ameen Malik a resident of Mapusa approached them on the pretext of arranging accommodation and thereafter took them to a villa in Porvorim.

When they reached the villa the accused Manish Rauthan a native of Uttar Pradesh and Jaideep a native of Haryana started assaulting the complainant and his friends, later the third accused Anshuman Sharma a native of Delhi forcibly removed cash amounting to Rs 1,500 from his wallet and used the Debit card of the complainant’s friend by withdrawing Rs 8,000.

Further, the accused persons threatened the complainant and his friends with dire consequences if they complained to the police.

According to police the modus operandi of the accused persons was to trap the tourists from Calangute to a villa at Porvorim and thereafter loot them. The accused persons were running a Wellness Spa at Porvorim behind Chodankar Nursing Home and involved in looting tourists.

During the interrogation the police found out that the racket was going on in the said villa for over a year which was rented for Rs 85,000 per month.  The accused have looted valuables of tourists amounting to lakhs of rupees.

Calangute PI Nolasco Raposo said that he has registered the case as dacoity and a letter is being sent to SDM, Mapusa for sealing of premises in which such nefarious activities were taking place.

The Calangute police have registered the case under Section 395. The three accused persons were produced before the JMFC court and were given 5-day remand for further investigation. PSI Sushant Sangodkar is conducting further investigation in the case under the supervision of PI Nolasco Raposo.

Calangute police team comprising of PI Nolasco Raposo, PSI Sushant Sangodkar, PSI Navin Dessai, Constables Vinay Shrivastav, Shasank Sakhalkar, Sindesh Sawant, and Lady Police Constable Harsha Padloskar acted swiftly to apprehend the three accused

persons.
