Panaji: Minister for information technology, Rohan Khaunte called upon higher secondary school students to be information seekers and use the laptops provided under the Cyberage scheme to gain a competitive edge.

He was speaking at a function organised to launch distribution of laptops to students, at Patto, Panaji, on Tuesday. Chief minister Manohar Parrikar was the chief guest at the event.

"Using the laptops for your curriculum should be the top priority," Khaunte said while addressing the gathering. He exhorted students to make good use of the laptops for their other academic-related work so that they could compete with others at the global level. He also urged students to improve their reading habit and vocabulary.

He thanked the chief minister for implementing the scheme saying that 37,000 students of Class XII of the previous academic year and the current academic year would be the beneficiaries this time.

He also spoke of government schemes and initiatives to boost the IT sector.

Director of education Gajanan Bhat spoke of the delay in implementing the scheme this year. He said students should not misuse the laptops. "If anyone tries to sell the laptop even the buyer would be booked," he warned.
