Canacona/Margao: Canacona police on Wednesday booked an FIR against a group of private bus operators for objecting to the introduction of an AC bus from Canacona to Margao by the Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC). The move followed a commotion at the state-run KTC bus stand at Chaudi-Canacona between private bus operators and KTC staff the same morning.

Acting on a complaint by KTC bus conductor Satish Kerkar, police booked Divakar Dessai, Shivkartuk Dessai, Mahesh Dessai, Gaurish Gane, Viraj Tubki and Anthony Pereira among other private bus operators, for unlawful assembly and restraining the complainant. "Summons will be issued to the accused to be present at the police station for further inquiry," PI Rajendra Prabhudessai said.

According to the police, the introduction of a Scania bus by the KTC on the Margao-Canacona route didn't go down well with the private bus operators, following which a group of 20-25 operators began restraining it from leaving the Chaudi stand.

President of the Canacona Private Bus Owners Association, Anthony Pereira, said the group had explained its problems to transport minister Ramkrishna 'Sudin' Dhavalikar three years ago, when a similar bus service was introduced on the route. "Private buses leave for Margao just five minutes before the scheduled departure of the AC bus. The AC bus is welcome, but at some other timings," Pereira said.
