MMC told to be strict with fire cracker stalls

Mapusa: Deputy collector, Bardez, Gaurish Shankwalkar has asked the Mapusa muncipality not to issue permission to fire cracker stalls during the upcoming Ganesh festival season without getting approval from the collector, fire department and the police.

Shankwalkar has also asked the MMC to keep the entrance of the market clear from encroachment and station a fire tender to avoid any untoward incident during the festival.

Shankwalkar expressed unhappiness over MMC's unpreparednessin making adequate arrangements for the Ganesh festival. Sources said that his resentment was over MMC's alleged failure to send a representative for the joint meeting held on Friday to discuss the arrangement to be made in view of the upcoming festival.

Shakwalkar also instructed the electricity and water departments to be keep their control rooms active during the festival season. Police have been asked to take up necessary precautionary measures during the festival.
