A day after DIG Vimal Gupta was  transferred out of  Goa, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday said the IPS officer was relieved from the state administration because of his “not so good activities”.

Gupta was in the eye of the  storm after a bribery allegation was made against him over closing  a departmental enquiry against  woman  police sub-inspector  Devyani Ambekar.

Last week, the Goa police department suspended  Ambekar and  police constable Chetan Morajkar for allegedly trying to influence the result of a departmental enquiry against the woman  police sub-inspector.

Speaking to Reporters at the Secretariat on Wednesday, Parrikar said  the DIG has been relieved from the

state administration by the Union ministry of home affairs factoring in the report on his  activities vis-à-vis the bribery allegation.

Parrikar, who also holds home portfolio, said that because of “not so good activities”, DIG came under cloud.

“So I said you go back…  it does not mean that Gupta has  been given a clean chit…we will  probe him,” Parrikar said.

“At this stage, I will not say that the DIG is guilty because it (the charge) has not been  proved…,”  he maintained.
