“Progress of children is reflected in their overall development in all spheres of life. Children are the future of nation. The violations against the children, the exploitation of the children causes psychological, social and also neurological damage and that leads to the damage to the fullest potential of these children and therefore it becomes necessary to look after the welfare of the children at the young age itself,” said Bakre adding, “It is our moral duty to lead children to the right destination through a right path.”

Bakre said that under the Juvenile Justice Act, child welfare police officers need to be designated in every police station, it also requires constitution of special juvenile police units in every district, appropriate training should be given to the child welfare police officers and members of this police units so that they can deal with children in a proper manner. “Children cannot be treated in the same manner as adults,” said Bakre.

“Nowadays this menace is happening on a large scale, you can see cases where victim is juvenile as well as the perpetrator of crime is a juvenile,” Bakre said referring to the Gurgaon school incident.

“It is therefore that children have to be now shown the way as to what is right and what is wrong, what is good and what is bad. Police officers can play a very big role in this,” said Bakre.
