Panaji: The Corporation of City of Panaji has allotted work order to the Sulabh International to construct 310 toilets in different areas of Panaji city, revealed City Mayor, Uday Madkaikar.

Speaking to this daily, Madkaikar said that these are single-seater flush water latrines with twin leach pits.

The CCP has been involved in providing and looking after various socio-economic infrastructures in the city and on the occasion of the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the corporation has issued the work order and signed a MoU with Sulabh International Social Service Organisation to construct 310 individual home toilets in the city.

Considering the COVID situation, public hygiene, and the importance of accessibility to individual toilets, the corporation will be providing 310 single-seater pour-flush water seal latrines with twin leach pits for five users in CCP’s jurisdiction.

The construction cost for these toilets amounts to Rs 1,61,91,064 and for the speedy completion of the project, the corporation will provide all necessary support to SISSO and ensure that the work is completed by mid-December 2020.

Meanwhile, SISSO distributed cloth bags to discourage plastic bags, face masks and sanitary pads to CCP women staff.

Madkaikar has urged the fish, fruit, vegetable vendors and others to desist from using plastic bags, and if anybody is found violating the norms, CCP may seal their shops and will do its best to get rid of the plastic menace by October 2, Gandhi Jayanti.
