Vasco: The spate of fatal accidents the state has witnessed this week increased by two on Wednesday. The accidents, both of which occurred on the Verna bypass, involved a two wheeler and a bus in one case and a truck and a two wheeler in the other. The accidents claimed one life each.
“Both accidents took place on the Seraulim-Utorda road,” Verna police inspector Uday Parab said. The victims were Ahmed Salman, 38, and Aishwarya Salelkar, 17.
Around 7:20am, on Wednesday, Salman, a resident of Mardol, Verna was proceeding to Margao on his two wheeler when an oncoming passenger coach collided into him head on. The deceased was dragged a short way by the bus, till it came to a stop. The bus was coming from Bengaluru. The driver of the bus fled the scene of the accident.
Salman was rushed to Hospicio hospital where he was declared ‘brought dead’.
The second accident involved a truck and a two wheeler. Pradeep Salelkar of Colva and his daughter Aishwarya were on their way home when a truck carrying cylinders hit their bike. Aishwarya, who was riding pillion, died on the spot. Pradeep is presently undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and hospital, Bambolim.
DySP Mormugao, Lawrence D Souza said the driver of the truck will be arrested. Meanwhile the search for the absconding bus driver is on.
