Ponda: After almost six months of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Banastari weekly bazaar has started operations from Thursday by the village panchayat allowing vendors to do business in the area. On its first day on Thursday, the bazaar has seen less number of vendors and customers.

As per information, around hundred local vendors used to operate during the weekly Banastari bazaar area before the lockdown was imposed, and with the phased manner of unlocking, the Panchayat has decided to make the weekly bazaar operational, informed Bhoma sarpanch Sunil Bhomkar while speaking to this daily. 

Though we have made the weekly bazaar operational, all vendors and public are informed to maintain social distancing norms and other precautionary measures issued by the health department to keep COVID-19 at bay, sarpanch Sunil Bhomkar said.

The sarpanch further said that the panchayat has decided to keep a strict vigil on the activities in the market during the weekly bazaar and offenders not adhering to the safety norms of COVID-19 will be fined by the panchayat.
