Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana, (Sugar factory) has begun the process of deploying its 42 multi-tasking staff in the government farms belonging to department of agriculture and department of animal husbandry and veterinary services even though the state government has not taken a formal decision on shutting down the four decade-old lone sugar factory.

The government stopped the operation of the Sanjivani factory since 2019 due to certain reasons, including outdated machinery at the plant.

In a letter addressed to the Registrar of Co-operative Societies, the administrator of the factory Dr T Thomas has sought permission from the government for deployment of the these multi-tasking staff, who have been working on a regular basis at the factory, in the farms of the department of agriculture and animal husbandry and veterinary services.

The letter states that it was brought to the notice of the government regarding non-operation of the factory and with a request to keep the workers engaged to avoid inconvenience, it is proposed to deploy 42 multi-tasking staff in the farms which are under the department of the agriculture and the animal husbandry and veterinary services.

Thomas has also stated that the proposal for delinking the sugar factory is already moved to the government.

As per the proposal, 31 multi-tasking staff would be deployed in the farm of the department of animal husbandry and veterinary services and 10 would be deployed in the farm of the department of agriculture.

The administrator has further stated that the service of one staff is required in the administrative section of the factory.
