40-yr-old jumps to death; tests positive for COVID

Panaji: A 40-year-old reportedly committed suicide by jumping from the third Mandovi bridge on late Wednesday night. The man fell on the ground and was declared brought dead at the GMC hospital, Bambolim.

The deceased was subjected to COVID-19 test and the report returned positive. Driver by profession, he was a resident of Pernem and is survived by wife and children, informed the police, adding that, he had left a suicide note in which he has apologised to his family for taking the drastic step. The reason for suicide is not known, the police said.

In another incident, a 46-year-old man reportedly committed suicide at his rented premises in Taleigao. His COVID-19 report came negative, informed the police.

According to information available, in Taleigao incident, the police had to arrange a private vehicle to shift the body to the GMC hospital while in the case of incident related to Mandovi bridge, the government ambulance reportedly reached late.

The issue related to the ambulances is faced during these days and it is being attributed to the pandemic scenario, claimed police sources.
